As part of our project on habitats and the adaptations of living things, our Year 2 Primary School students let their imaginations soar in English class by designing their own fantastic animals. After exploring how species survive in nature, each pupil created a unique creature and proudly presented it to their classmates in English. In their presentations, they described key details such as the name of their new animal, where it lives and the climate of its habitat. They also showed an excellent command of the scientific vocabulary studied in class, describing their creature’s body covering, whether feathers, fur or scales, how it is born, whether oviparous or viviparous, how it breathes and how it moves. The most creative moment came when they explained how their animal had physically adapted to survive in its environment and what it eats. It was a wonderful activity that brought together science, spoken English and creativity, helping children connect their theoretical knowledge with their own imaginative creations.
