Palacio de Granda is an international school with a multilingual programme, which adapts to each educational stage. Our bilingual training programme begins in the Early Years courses, our students learn to communicate in English with the same fluency as they do in their mother tongue. To complete the language programme, during Secondary courses students learn a third language. Our international school in Asturias develops a comprehensive education programme, in which we take into account the aptitudes of each student to enhance their personal skills. We want our students to be critical, creative citizens and also to perceive their own training as a lifelong learning process, our educational programmes not only focus on theoretical training, but also help them to develop personally and emotionally.
Language learning at Palacio de Granda is based on the continuous practical use of the language. Early Years and Primary are the ideal stages for learning languages, as pupils develop their mother tongue while also learning a second language. At our international school, we apply a programme based on the continuous use of a second language, enabling our pupils to communicate in English with the same ease as they do in Spanish.
During Secondary and Baccalaureate, Palacio de Granda students benefit from international programmes focused on language learning. ISP, International Schools Partnership, enables us to collaborate with dozens of schools around the world, creating a comprehensive programme of international activities each year.
Language exchange trips provide an opportunity to put into practice what has been learnt in the classroom and develop language skills through activities in English-speaking countries with students from other international schools.
Our international school provides language programmes adapted to each educational stage. In addition, our educational programme is complemented by other knowledge and skills that will be essential both for pupils’ professional development and their personal lives.
Learning during the school years provides a foundation of knowledge that stays with us throughout life. At Palacio de Granda, we offer a holistic education that includes both technical knowledge and emotional skills.
Skills such as creativity and critical thinking are essential for the future. A pupil who is able to develop their own creative abilities from an early age will become an adult with the competencies needed to face any situation.
Emotional intelligence is also a skill we encourage through our academic programmes. Motivation to learn is closely linked to emotional intelligence and a pupil’s ability to manage their own feelings.
The educational environment is highly important for pupil motivation. Our international school in Asturias is an educational community where all kinds of abilities are welcomed. We see our school as a family, where developing individual strengths is just as important as feeling part of a shared educational community.
One of the reasons behind the success of our language programmes is the exceptional professional team we have at Palacio de Granda. Our bilingual teachers apply a learning method based on the continuous practical use of the language. Communicative ability is the most important aspect of language learning: active listening and pupils’ ability to express ideas in English help them assimilate vocabulary and lexical structures. Our teachers encourage the practical use of language, helping communication in English become as natural as communication in Spanish from the earliest school years.
Our teachers take each pupil’s personal skills into account. Motivating a student to achieve their best academic results depends to a large extent on the commitment of the teaching staff. Our teaching team applies an academic method that encourages each pupil’s personal learning, starting from programmes focused on language acquisition.
Values based on ecology and the environment will be very important for pupils’ future. Palacio de Granda is a school surrounded by nature, in a peaceful setting that is ideal for transmitting values linked to ecology and care for the environment. The municipality of Siero offers us an exceptional natural setting, close to Asturias’ two main cities, Oviedo and Gijón.
Palacio de Granda completes its private international academic offer with a student residence that welcomes pupils of all ages. Language learning is also of vital importance in our residence, as each year we welcome students from all over the world.
Our aim is for pupils to see our school as a home, in a space that includes both academic activities and a wide range of leisure opportunities.
Studying at a bilingual school such as Palacio de Granda offers an outstanding academic opportunity. Unlike other schools, in our educational programme English is not just another subject; it is based on a continuous process in which the practical use of the language is constant. Our pupils’ academic results, in both national and international examinations, are the best demonstration of the effectiveness of our educational approach. Students who wish to complete their university education at international institutions are fully prepared to take on this academic challenge. Learning languages from Early Years provides a clear advantage, as it stimulates pupils’ communication skills.
