Early Years 5 / Year 8 – Ecosystems

Year 8 students explain to Early Years children how a self-sustaining ecosystem works.

15-07-2026

Year 8 students recently had the opportunity to share their work with Early Years 5 children, in an activity that proved to be both enriching and inspiring.

As part of their project on self-sustaining ecosystems, the secondary students prepared and explained, in a way adapted to the age of the younger children, what this type of ecosystem is, how it works and which elements make it possible. Through their presentations, they showed the processes of balance between living beings and their environment, as well as the importance of caring for the natural world.

The activity not only helped Year 8 students consolidate their learning but also enabled them to develop skills such as communication, responsibility and empathy, as they had to adapt their language and explanations for a younger audience. The Early Years children, in turn, took part with great interest, asking questions and showing curiosity about the experiments and models presented.

Initiatives of this kind strengthen the connection between educational stages and foster collaborative learning in which all participants benefit. It was undoubtedly a very positive experience, and one we will continue to promote in the future.
