Palacio de Granda welcomes students from Colegio Monte Maior for an enriching cultural exchange At Palacio de Granda, in Asturias, every educational experience becomes a learning journey. This time, students from Colegio Monte Maior in Lisbon visited the region to take part in their first cultural exchange with a full group of students, organised within the ISP International Schools Partnership network. The experience combined academic learning, personal development and cultural discovery. An educational project that brings cultures together The exchange gave young Portuguese and Spanish students the opportunity to live and learn together, developing important skills such as communication, empathy and the ability to adapt to new environments. This initiative not only promotes intercultural understanding, but also teamwork and self-confidence, all of which are key life skills. Students had the opportunity to experience first-hand how activities are carried out in a different school setting, creating lasting connections between both institutions. Activities that transform learning During their stay, students took part in a wide variety of activities combining adventure, sport and culture. Highlights included cycling routes along the Senda del Oso, caving in impressive Asturian caves, canoeing down the River Sella and surf lessons on the coast. These experiences encouraged collaboration, curiosity and confidence, while allowing students to enjoy Asturias’ natural surroundings. Cultural visits were also an essential part of the programme. Students explored Oviedo and Cangas de Onís through guided tours, discovering the region’s history, art and architecture. Each activity was designed to enrich learning by combining enjoyment with personal and academic development. An unforgettable cultural immersion Asturian gastronomy and culture made a very positive impression on the Monte Maior students. Meals in traditional restaurants gave them the opportunity to try typical dishes from the region and learn more about local customs. At the same time, school dynamics and shared activities supported the development of socio-emotional, intercultural and leadership skills, strengthening students’ confidence and curiosity. Friendships and skills for life At the end of the exchange, students returned to Lisbon with new friendships, unforgettable memories and a deep appreciation for the region, its culture and its gastronomy.
